If the eyes are the windows to the soul, and then surely the eyelids are the frame. Tired eyes and drooping eyelids can cause an unnatural, aged facial appearance. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can help remedy the tired appearance that develops as we age. It is often a simple, outpatient procedure that can sometimes even be performed under local anesthetic in select patients. Let others focus on your beautiful, bright eyes and express the energy that you have inside!
Types of Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin that contributes to eyelid hooding, a tired appearance and impaired vision. Lower eyelid surgery reduces fat deposits causing puffiness and under eye bags.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Incisions for eyelid surgery are made in the natural contours of the eye, so they may be easily camouflaged after the procedure. In upper blepharoplasty, the incisions are made in the crease of the upper eye. For lower blepharoplasty, the incision is made in the lower lid lash line. Excess skin and fatty tissue is removed after the incision is created, resulting in a refreshed and youthful looking appearance. This outpatient procedure is often performed under general anesthesia and is generally completed in under 2 hours.
Many factors of post-operative care will determine how quickly one recovers from eyelid surgery. Keeping the head elevated, using cool compresses to subside swelling and bruising, applying post-operative ointments, and getting plenty of rest will speed up the recovery process. Recovery time will vary per patient, however, most patients take 4-5 days off from work and activity. Swelling and bruising will require a few weeks to completely heal.
