What is Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy)?

What is Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy)? | Westport Plastic SurgeryBreast lift currently ranks among the top five cosmetic surgery procedures in the US, according to the latest ASPS figures. In fact, more women now want to choose breast lift because it creates subtle and more natural looking results.

Many moms undergo breast lift to restore their pre-pregnancy breast appearance, and come out looking more sensuous and feeling more confident.

In several cases, mastopexy may be performed in conjunction with breast implants for more comprehensive results. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will educate the patient on all aspects of breast lift surgery. Impeccable and committed board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Nasir provides breast lift to patients in New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and other cities and communities in this part of the country.

Candidacy

An ideal candidate for breast lift surgery would be a woman who is in good general health and is bothered by the appearance of sagging breasts and downward pointing nipples. Loss of breast volume due to aging, weight loss, pregnancy, nursing or other reasons as well as breast tissue laxity may cause a woman to seek breast lift.

The candidate should be above the age of 18, having a moderate and stable body weight, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and having no near-term plans for a pregnancy. She should be in good physical and emotional health and have realistic expectations from breast lift plastic surgery.

Procedure

Standard Breast Lift

In this technique, this surgeon will create an anchor-shaped incision. This will include an incision around the areola, and another going vertically down to the base of the breast. A third incision will be placed horizontally along the breast crease. This traditional breast lift procedure can significantly reduce sagginess in the lower half of the breast.

Doughnut Breast Lift

Compared to a standard breast lift, this technique involves lesser skin removal. Downtime is minimal and scarring is much reduced. A circumferential incision around the areola is placed to remove a limited amount of tissue. The technique is ideally suited for women with smaller breast size. Doughnut mastopexy can also include areola reshaping.

Lollipop Breast Lift

This vertical mastopexy technique is somewhere in-between the standard breast lift and the doughnut lift. The surgeon will create an incision around the areola. Another small incision will be placed down to the breast crease. A moderate amount of lift can be achieved with this procedure.

Recovery

Following mastopexy, the patient will go through a downtime of about one week. Mild pain and soreness is expected in the first few days in the incision sites, which can be managed with prescription pain medications. The patient will be required to wear a special surgical bra for a few weeks to allow the breasts to firmly acquire their new shape.

Results

Immediate improvement in breast firmness will be noticeable after mastopexy. But the full results will be established gradually over several months. Results of breast lift usually last for several years as long as the patient maintains a healthy and active lifestyle. Tremendous and accomplished cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nasir receives patients from New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and communities and neighborhoods in this part of the northeast for a breast lift.
