Often women and some men can develop extra fat and skin in their upper arms. This excess tissue when extreme can result in the “batwing” appearance and can be unsightly and embarrassing making one extremely self-conscious in short sleeves or summer wear.
This can sometimes be addressed with laser liposuction alone or sometimes with a surgical body contouring procedure called a brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery, where skin and excess skin is removed to result in a more natural arm contour.

Arm Lift Procedure
Arm lift cosmetic surgery is designed to lift and tighten the underarm skin to reveal a more slim and youthful appearance. The surgery can often be performed under local anesthesia but sometimes general anesthesia is required depending on the extent of the deformity. The incision is made on the underside or back of the arm, where excess fat is removed by liposuction. If needed, excess skin is then trimmed, tightened, and sutured closed, leaving the patient with smooth, toned arms.
Recovery
Patients may experience a mild tightness and swelling of the arms and transient tingling and of the hands in the days following surgery. Daily activities may resume after two to three weeks after surgery, and strenuous activity, lifting, and exercise should be avoided for several weeks to ensure healing. Scars will heal over time, however, it is recommended that patients use sunscreen and avoid sun exposure for long periods of time.
