Breast Lift Risks and Safety

Breast Lift Risks and Safety | Westport | Bridgeport | New HavenBreast lift, which has a fairly low rate of complications, is considered one of the safer cosmetic surgery procedures. However, the surgery still involves potential risks that are typical to almost every surgical procedure. These risks can be significantly reduced if the patient chooses a fully trained and experienced breast surgeon.

To ensure patient safety, it is vitally important that the surgeon provides clear instructions for preparation, and the patient follows them diligently. Fantastic, noteworthy, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Nasir of Lotus Cosmetic Surgery provides breast lift and other procedures to patients in New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and surrounding communities and cities in this region of the US.

Common Risks

Some of the typical risks that are associated with breast lift surgery include:

Infection

Signs of infection can include persistent pain in the incision sites, abnormal swelling and redness, fever, pus or skin that feels warm to the touch. If one or more of these symptoms are present, the patient should get in touch with the surgeon.

Infection risks are minimized when the breast lift plastic surgery is performed at a surgery center that maintains a sterile surgical environment. During the post-surgical phase, the patient should avoid exposure to contaminants in the incision areas to minimize the risk.

Hematoma

In an exceptional situation, uncontrolled bleeding may occur after breast lift surgery. The surgeon should carefully assess the patient’s medical history to minimize the risk. The patient, on her part, should adhere to the surgeon’s advice on avoiding certain medications and supplements to reduce the risk.

Adverse Reaction to Anesthesia

A poor anesthesia response during the surgery may occur in a few cases, despite pre-surgery screening. If the patient has any underlying health condition, the risk of an extreme reaction is higher. An anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist will be present in the surgery room to monitor the patient’s response and take steps to minimize the risk.

Delayed Healing

If the two sides of the incision have not closed properly, or the tissue on either side has died, it may lead to poor healing. Smokers are at a higher risk of slow healing. Women who choose anchor lift breast lift technique may also have a slightly higher risk of slow healing. The surgeon will remove the dead tissue and re-suture both sides of the incision to correct this situation.

Loss of Sensation

Numbness, sensation loss, or altered sensation may occur in the sites around the areolas and nipples due to their repositioning. In a rare case, the sensation loss may be permanent. Temporary loss of sensation is not a cause for alarm, and the condition will gradually improve on its own.

Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nasir receives patients from New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and nearby areas for breast lift.

Unsatisfactory Aesthetic Results

In an exceptional case, the breasts may appear uneven after breast lift, or the patient may still find them slightly droopy. Some patients may not be happy with the new position or shape of the areolas. A revision surgery may have to be performed in some cases.
