Recovery is a vital component in the overall breast lift cosmetic surgery procedure. Working women and busy moms should know that breast lift will involve some downtime, and they should be prepared to take a few days off from their busy schedules. During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon will discuss various aspects of breast lift, including recovery.
When a patient is clear about what the recovery process involves, she can make a better decision about choosing the procedure.
It will also help her to plan her surgery well, and allow for a smooth and hassle-free recovery. Outstanding, committed, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Nasir of Lotus Cosmetic Surgery provides breast lift to patients in New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and other suburbs and communities in this part of the country.
First Few Weeks
In the first two to three weeks after breast lift surgery, most patients may experience mild soreness, bruising and swelling in the incision areas. Prescription pain meds in the first week will help the patient feel comfortable. For the first fortnight, the patient should avoid sleeping on her stomach as far as possible. Sponge bath is preferable in the first week.
The surgeon will provide instructions to the patient about wearing a special surgical bra for the first few weeks following breast lift plastic surgery. As the healing improves, the surgical bra will be replaced with a support bandage or a sports bra without underwire. The surgeon will remove the sutures and drain tubes in about a week to 10 days. Most patients will be ready to resume their regular routine or go back to work at that point.
The surgeon will instruct the patient to avoid exercises, vigorous activities and lifting of heavy weights for three to four weeks to minimize pressure on the chest. Bending over should also be minimized in the first two weeks. Reliable and judicious cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nasir receives patients from New Haven, Westport, Fairfield County, Fairfield, Bridgeport, CT, New York, and nearby areas across the landscape for a breast lift.
First Few Months
Swelling will resolve gradually over several weeks or months, and the final results of breast lift will establish during this period. Numbness or altered skin sensation may occur in the incision sites and nipple area. This will normally dissipate in about two to three months.
In some cases, the patient may experience a tingling or stinging sensation in the breasts during recovery as the nerves begin to return to their normal function. For the first month after the surgery, the patient should avoid lifting anything over her head. She should diligently follow the surgeon’s instructions for in order to achieve safe and predictable results.
Scarring
Conspicuous scarring with lumpy and reddish scars may appear during the early recovery phase. However, over a few months, the scars will progressively fade into thin white lines. The impact of scars can be diminished with the application of silicone sheeting and cortisone cream.
Breast lift surgery should ideally be chosen when the woman has no plans for another pregnancy in the foreseeable future because pregnancy can cause the breasts to sag.
