If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then surely the eyelids are the frame. Tired eyes and drooping eyelids can cause an unnatural, aged facial appearance. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a facial plastic surgery procedure that can help remedy the tired appearance that develops as we age. It is often a simple, outpatient procedure that can sometimes even be performed under local anesthesia in select patients. Let others focus on your beautiful, bright eyes and express the energy that you have inside!

What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, also known as an eyelid lift, is a procedure designed to rejuvenate the area around the eyes by removing and repositioning sagging skin and fatty tissue. The surgery is typically performed for cosmetic purposes, as it tightens the area to create a more well-rested appearance. Eyelid surgery can also provide functional advantages, however, such as improving one’s vision if upper eyelid skin is obstructing their view.
What Are the Different Types of Eyelid Surgery?
There are three main types of eyelid surgery that our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Amir Nasir, performs: upper, lower, and double eyelid techniques. One or more of these may be performed depending on the individual’s unique needs and aesthetic goals.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin that contributes to eyelid hooding, a tired appearance, and impaired vision. Muscles may also be tightened in the process.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery addresses under-eye bags and puffiness by removing and/or repositioning fat deposits, and in some cases tightening muscles.
Double Eyelid Surgery
Double eyelid surgery, or “Asian blepharoplasty,” is performed on those desiring a crease in their upper eyelid to create a larger, rounder eye shape.
What Does the Eyelid Surgery Procedure Involve?
Incisions for eyelid surgery are made in the natural contours of the eye, so they may be easily camouflaged after the facial surgery. In upper blepharoplasty, the incisions are made in the crease of the upper eye. For lower blepharoplasty, the incision is made in the lower lid lash line. Excess skin and fatty tissue is removed after the incision is created, resulting in a refreshed and youthful-looking appearance. This outpatient procedure is often performed under general anesthesia and is typically completed in under 2 hours.
What Can I Expect After Eyelid Surgery?
Many factors of post-operative care will determine how quickly one recovers from eyelid surgery. Keeping the head elevated, using cool compresses to subside swelling and bruising, applying post-operative ointments, and getting plenty of rest will speed up the recovery process. Recovery time will vary per patient; however, most patients take 4-5 days off from work and activity. Swelling and bruising will require a few weeks to completely heal.
How Long Will My Eyelid Surgery Results Last?
The results from eyelid surgery can last 10 years or longer in most patients. Since eyelid surgery does not stop the aging process, you may eventually see signs of aging return, but your eye appearance should always look younger than if you had never undergone the procedure. Eyelid surgery helps men and women age in a more graceful manner. To prolong the rejuvenating results of your procedure, you should follow a healthy lifestyle and adopt a skin care regimen.
How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
The average cost of eyelid surgery is approximately $3,300 for the surgeon’s fee. Keep in mind, however, that this number will vary according to each individual’s unique surgical plan. Factors such as the extent of a patient’s surgical needs, anesthesia fees, and surgical facility costs will all influence the total amount you can expect to pay. In addition, your plastic surgeon’s expertise and the practice’s geographic location will both play a role in your eyelid surgery cost.
Before your surgery, you will be provided with a personalized quote to help you know what to expect. To help patients budget for their eyelid surgery, our team at Lotus Cosmetic Surgery Connecticut accepts financing options such as CareCredit®. This can break the total amount into smaller, more manageable monthly payments with little to no interest.
