As we age the neck muscles under the chin can become weak leading to redundant, lax, skin and fat and the “turkey gobbler” appearance. This area can often be tightened with surgery and sometimes with laser liposuction. Correction of this laxity can result in dramatic improvements to a patient’s appearance and profile. Neck lift surgery is an ideal procedure for those who are unhappy with:
- Loss of laxity in the neck, causing loose, hanging skin
- Accumulation of fat in the neck region
- Wrinkles and creases in the neck
Necklift Procedure
Dr. Amir Nasir may evaluate neck lift patients for candidacy of cervicoplasty (the removal of excess skin), or platysmaplasty (the tightening of loose neck muscles), or both to achieve a defined, firm appearance in the neck. This procedure is commonly combined with facelift surgery; it as an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Small incisions are made behind each ear, and sometimes underneath the chin. The muscles and underlying tissue are then tightened, and excess skin is removed.
Recovery
The recovery period for neck lift surgery depends on the extent of surgery. Patients typically resume normal activities within two weeks post-operation. Bruising and swelling will occur and subside over a few weeks, and a feeling of tightness in the neck may remain for several months.
