Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Procedure Steps

Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)

RbjKFO3MyWffZNRNEdnVfB4l1hNugUfyKucYtX5Pt9kFrom an aesthetic perspective, face is the most prominent and visible part of the body. To correct the obvious signs of facial aging, women and men can choose facelift cosmetic surgery.

Several facelift surgery techniques are popular today, which can be used according to the unique facial anatomy and cosmetic goals of an individual. But the steps in the facelift procedure mostly remain unchanged, irrespective of the technique chosen.

Dr. Amir Nasir is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and various other surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. At the time of pre-operative consultation, Dr. Nasir will discuss various steps involved in the facelift procedure. This will improve the patient’s familiarity with the procedure and help them feel more confident about it. Dr. Nasir provides facelift to patients in New Haven, Westport, CT, and other locations and cities in this part of the state.

Anesthesia

The first step in facelift plastic surgery will be to place the patient under anesthesia. General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation will be used as per the pre-determined surgical plan. In either case, the patient will be totally comfortable throughout the surgery.

For general anesthesia, an anesthesiologist or a registered nurse anesthetist will remain present in the surgery room to monitor the patient’s response. They are trained to anticipate any adverse reaction quickly in order to minimize the risk.

Incision Placement

After anesthesia, the incisions will be made by the surgeon in discreet locations as planned in advance. The goal in incision placement is to choose hidden locations so that subsequent scarring is minimally visible. The main incision is usually placed within the hairline above the temple to make the scar less conspicuous.

Natural facial creases are ideal locations for additional incisions in facelift. These locations heal well and hide the scars more naturally. In a traditional facelift, the incision usually starts from behind the hairline one side of the face, and then follows the hairline down to the ear to end in the lower scalp below the hair.

Tightening Skin and Muscles

The surgeon will gently lift the overlying facial skin through the incisions. The underlying fat tissue will be excised or redistributed appropriately, and excess skin will be removed. The surgeon will reposition the weak or sagging muscles to firm up the facial contours. When the surgery is over, the skin will be re-draped smoothly and tightly and re-attached with sutures or staples.

Immediately after the surgery, the incisions will be covered with a gauze bandage. The patient will be shifted to a monitoring area for a few hours to help them recover from the early effects of anesthesia and surgery. Accomplished cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nasir receives patients from New Haven, Westport, CT, and nearby areas for facelift surgery.

Additional Procedures

In some cases, facelift may be performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as facial liposuction, fat transfer, cheek or chin implants, eyelid surgery, brow lift, neck lift, or rhinoplasty. The steps involved in the overall facelift surgery may have to be slightly adjusted according to the custom surgical plan in such cases.
