Liposuction Plastic Surgery Recovery

Liposuction Plastic Surgery Recovery | Westport | New HavenLiposuction is a significantly customizable cosmetic surgery procedure, which may be performed in one or multiple areas, and as an independent surgery or in combination with other procedures. Therefore, recovery in case of liposuction will vary from patient to another. The surgeon will educate the patient about the recovery process during the initial consultation.

Dr. Amir Nasir is a board certified plastic surgeon providing liposuction and various other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Dr. Nasir will give clear instructions for the recovery phase and help the patient achieve safe and optimal results. He provides liposuction to patients in New Haven, Westport, CT, and surrounding locations.

Immediate Post-Surgery Phase

How quickly the patient recovers will depend on the extent of fat removal perform, the location of the surgery, the type of anesthesia used, and the surgical technique used by the surgeon. If liposuction plastic surgery is performed using general anesthesia and involves substantial fat removal from multiple areas, some patients may have to stay overnight at the hospital. Otherwise most patients can return home the same day after a few hours.

The patient should have someone responsible to drive them back home after the surgery. They should also arrange for aftercare for the first two or three days, or have a friend or relative stay over for assistance. Mild pain and soreness in the incision areas can be experienced in the first few days, which can be managed with pain meds prescribed by the surgeon. A few patients may be prescribed antibiotics to reduce infection risk or iron supplements, if they are anemic.

First Week

Immediately after the procedure, the liposuction surgeon will wrap the treated area in bandages or provide an elasticated support corset to protect the wound. The corset may have to be worn for several days or weeks as per the surgeon’s advice. Bruising is expected if the treated area is large, but it will begin to subside from the second week. Swelling is likely to last for several weeks or months.

Initial numbness in the treated area will be experienced by most patients, but it will dissipate on its own in about six to eight weeks. In case a single or small area has been treated for liposuction, the patient may expect to return to their normal activity or go to work in about one week. Salient and hard working cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nasir receives patients from New Haven, Westport, CT, and nearby areas for liposuction.

Long-term Recovery

Swelling in the treated areas following liposuction will completely resolve in about three months in most cases. During this period, progressive improvement and subtle changes will be noticed, but full results of fat reduction and enhanced contours will be established once the swelling is entirely eliminated.

Patients are encouraged to perform light activities in the early recovery phase, but vigorous exercises and heavy lifting of weights should be avoided for at least one month. The surgeon’s recovery instruction should be diligently followed and post-operative visits should be made as per schedule to ensure safe and complete recovery.
